Who are we?
Established in Melbourne in 2007, the Flare Dance Company is a not-for-profit dance company that provides a platform for adult emerging and non-professional dancers and choreographers to express themselves through contemporary dance and give back to the community.
What is our vision?
To create and perform the highest quality non-professional contemporary dance works, while embracing diversity, community and social awareness, and encouraging physical and mental well-being in adults.
What do we do?
The Company stages a production each year, featuring original contemporary dance works. We also engage in and develop project-based work around Melbourne. We have an active presence in the Boroondara area and regularly perform at community festivals and events. We partner with local charities to raise funds and awareness.
Why do we do it?
We love to dance.
We love meeting others who love to dance.
We love making a difference through dance.
How do we do it?
We have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that embraces the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our members.
We are flexible about each dancer’s level of participation to allow dancers to also juggle their personal and professional lives.
Our members and volunteers enjoy being part of a common project and understand that their individual commitment is integral to our success.
We would not exist without the generous support of the City of Boroondara, the Rotary Club of Balwyn, many local businesses, our partner charities and our volunteers.
We set out the expectations we have of our members in our Code of Conduct.
Is Flare Dance Company just for dancers?
No. We also provide volunteer opportunities in graphic design, marketing and publicity, photography, videography, costume design, makeup artistry, sound and lighting operation, stage management, and front of house.
