Flare Dance Company

ABOUT US

The Flare Dance Company (FDC) was established in 2007 with the aim of providing a platform for adult amateur and emerging dancers and choreographers to create, perform and explore various forms of dance. FDC also promotes personal development in our dancers and provides them with a sense of solidarity and significance.

Within FDC’s short 3 year history, we have staged two productions “In Essence” and “Metamorphosis”, each featuring a mixed bill of original short works in various genres including contemporary, jazz, ballet and ethnic styles.

FDC has enabled non-professional dancers to continue to pursue their passion for dance performance while juggling their everyday commitments of other careers and personal lives. FDC provides its members with the creative outlet to perform, and if members wish to attempt choreography, a nurturing environment to do so.

FDC gives dance enthusiasts the opportunities to interact and socialise with others who share their dance interest.  Many of our members comment on the friendly and even family-like atmosphere of FDC. Rehearsals are relaxed and fun, and there is much peer support and sharing of ideas. Additionally, FDC holds gatherings and organises social activities such as attending professional dance shows to help solidify friendships.

Through our annual productions, FDC also aims to provide people interested in theatre production opportunities to acquire practical experience and to refine their technical skills (such as sound and lighting, stage management, costumes and graphic design).

Community involvement is at the heart of FDC. We seek to bring together and give back to the community by encouraging the participation and support of individuals and businesses within the community.  We hope to share our art form and to nurture the artistic flair of the wider community by staging high quality annual productions.  We also perform in a variety of community cultural events and street festivals throughout the year. In line with our philanthropic nature, FDC gives back to the community through charitable donations from our ticket revenue.

Looking forward, FDC is striving to become a permanent fixture in the cultural scene of the local community through our annual productions and various community performances.
